TOURNAMENT NOTES
5/3/08 DYP:  We had a good turnout tonight. The club was packed. Aftershock (the small
bar) was packed. There was a big crowd around the bull. The dance floor was packed.
Must've been something in the air. Everyone was out partying. Back to foosball... Thad
Meeks & Daryl Perry had a good night. They held off John Dickerson & Bill Shields for the
win - even though the finals went 2 sets. Good playing guys!

5/1/08 No 2 Pro Doubles:  It was good to see Ron Hardin out foosin' tonight. He teamed up
with Scott Cheney and won our first No 2 Pro Doubles tournament. Scott has been playing
some good ball, but Ron was kinda rusty his last time here. Not tonight! Those skills from
back in the day have returned! In the third game of the second set, Ron came alive hitting 3
shots from the back and side stepping the double-dip. Great teamwork guys!

4/29/08 Rookie DYP + Open Singles:  Lee McDonald won tonight's Draw with newcomer
Aaron Haskew. Congratulations guys! We had hoped for a better turnout, but it was still a fun
night. A few of our rookies weren't able to make it due to some circumstances beyond their
control. We'll try it again next month.

4/26/08 DYP:  Daryl Perry came back from the US Open with more focus which means less
mistakes. He won both of this week's tournaments with a double-dip. Daryl's partner tonight
was Bill Shields who is no stranger to the winners' circle. Bill played a solid game as he
always does. It was good to see David Hobson. He was in the area from north Alabama and
came by to foos with us.

4/24/08 Open Doubles:  Daryl Perry & Andy McDonald took out the reigning champs tonight!
David Chancey & Bill Shields were working on their 8th consecutive Thursday night win
sitting on top of the winners bracket, as usual. But Daryl & Andy had different plans. They
won the first match of the finals in 3 games for the dip.  David & Bill have escaped the double-
dip for the past 3 weeks so when they won the first game of the final set, it looked like
business as usual. That wasn't the case tonight. Daryl & Andy outplayed them in the last 2
games of the event for the double-dip and 1st Place. They kept David & Bill off balance.
Andy's defensive 5-row was the real difference. Congratulations guys! You've done what
none of us have been able to do for a long time. And to David & Bill - Congratulations on
another fine winning streak! Excellent foosball!

4/19/08:  The rookies dominated tonight's two Handicap events. The only downside was
when Fred Wilson was playing for the top of both charts and had to leave unexpectedly. Lee
McDonald took 1st Place in Singles and John Dickerson  double- dipped his way to 1st Place
in Goalie Wars. Good playing guys!

4/17/08 Open Doubles:  Bill Shields & David Chancey continued their domination of Thursday
night tournaments tonight. The last 7 times they've teamed up, they've won. Amateur fooser
Cleve Orso & I have dipped them 3 times in a row, but haven't been able to put them away -
yet.

4/12/08 Open Doubles + Midnight DYP:  We had a good turnout for the 2-event Saturday
Night Special at The Whiskey. Foosers from 4 states converged to compete in the night's
first event - Open Doubles. The level of competition was high and we saw a lot of different
styles of play. Louisiana's Micah Odle & Joey Guercia lost the winners bracket to Mobile
Fooser Rob Moore & Hattiesburg Pro Bobby Sims. Bobby lit it up from the back with
awesome bank shots. Micah & Joey went on to win the losers bracket. This set the stage
for the finals where these 2 teams would meet again. Micah & Joey stayed alive winning the
first match in 5 games. The second match went 4 games with Micah & Joey completing the
double-dip. Congratulations guys! Congratulations to both teams! Great finals! Micah doubled
winning the Midnight DYP as well. This time his partner was Sean Hennessey also from
Louisiana. Those Louisiana foosers know how to play ball! I'd like to apologize for the delay
in DYP matches. In hindsight, I should've held off the Open Doubles finals so the DYP would
have moved along at a quicker  pace. I know better than that. Next time, I'll either stipulate
that you can't play in the DYP if you're still in the Doubles or I'll hold up the finals like I should
have done tonight. My bad foosers! It was still a great night of foosball. Thanks to all of the
out-of-towners and our loyal Mobile Foosers! And a special thanks to Bill Shields for helping
officiate the finals.

4/10/08 Open Doubles:  Scott Cheney & Bill Shields teamed up tonight with great results.
Cleve Orso & myself were able to beat them in the first match of the finals, but they
prevailed in match 2. Nice foosin' Scott & Bill! Good luck in Atlanta!

4/8/08 Rookie DYP + Open Singles:  Rookies played for cash & trophies Tuesday night at The
Whiskey. Congratulations to Boogie Ayers & Chuck Weathers - winners of the first Mobile
Foos Rookie DYP! It was close in the finals with 2nd Place finishers John Dickerson & Fred
Wilson dipping Boogie & Chuck in match 1.  It was a fun event. We're going to do it again in a
few weeks.  Everyone had a good time. The 3/5 - 2/3 format seemed to go over well and so
did the trophies. We had a nice turnout for the Open Singles tournament that followed. We
just about had to pull out a 32-team chart! It's great to see such an interest in Open Singles.
It's my favorite event. We'll definitely do it again after the next Rookie DYP. Thanks for a
great night of foosball!

4/5/08 DYP:  John Lynn & myself won the winners bracket in tonight's Draw. Billy Miller & Bill
Shields won the losers bracket setting up the finals. In the first match, they beat us 2
straight for the dip. We were down 1-0 in the second set before we knew it. Billy & Bill were
on fire! At that point, John asked me to play front and that's when it all started. John lit it up
scoring the  next 4 out of 5 points from the back. Now with the game count tied 1-1, John
took off again scoring 3 of the next 5 points leaving very little for me to do. That was 7 points
in 2 games from the back! It was awesome - some of the best shooting by a goalie I've ever
seen. John single- handedly won the second match saving us from the double-dip. Thanks
John! Billy was killing me with that rollover.

4/3/08 Open Doubles:  Number 6. David Chancey & Bill Shields have now won 6 straight
Open Doubles tournaments. They're knocking on the door of their previous winning streak of
8. Cleve Orso & myself dipped them, but once again couldn't produce the double-dip. We
were 1 point away! It came down to blood ball, blood game. Bill caught a wild ball at the
3-row & scored the final point of the tournament with a pull shot. Superb playing guys!
